THE STORY

The idea
My gf at the time made crystal jewelry and one night she was showing me her latest work while the room was a bit dark so I took out my iPhone flashlight and eventually, just sorta messing around - I saw how amazing crystals looked under light. I thought ‘nobody needs this… but this has to exist’

“Heavily machined rock”
The first direction was The Orb Pendant: a rechargeable illuminated sphere with a tiny PCB and optics. I found this engineer Lamar in South Africa ( I still work with him to this day ) and I made the classic founder mistake trying to make something perfect. It turns out - it’s really hard to make a rock rechargeable. From the design mockups, my mentor Chris called it a “heavily machined rock,” and honestly… he was right. It looked a bit like a vibrator. Not quite wearable.
The Orb Project was scrapped (it may return later in a simpler form) and pivoted toward something slimmer and more timeless: the Spire Pendant.

The Spire takes shape
The Spire Pendant emerged: real crystal, polished steel, and a fine tuned soft light. Early prototypes had issues with fitment and light path, but each revision got cleaner until it finally clicked. It felt ready for production.
Twist to turn on. Twist to turn off. Simple.

Twist off
About 2 months before I planned to finally launch RFH, my relationship fell through and it was devastating to me at the time (so it usually goes) I loved them so much, but I didn’t love myself… I began to lose my grip on purpose. I began to question self.
So amidst the grief I began to read and read and read and got nowhere. Everything I read about suffering was not what I wanted to hear nor what I could accept.
All I did know is that we are always going to have desires.. and we will attempt to fulfill them, and lose them again and again - therefore we are always going to suffer. The ebb and flow. There’s no changing that. There is no certainty.
Now
Twist on
That painful truth expanded my awareness like a desert to the sky. I just began noticing. And once you see life for what it really is, including the parts you don’t want to see - you may find this part of you deep within that is okay with that. This part of you that can find beauty within the chaos. And that’s what I did. And this is that. I’m still here, I’m still suffering, heck - I’m still trying to sell these weird light up crystal necklaces. But as long as I keep this light on, and as long as I’m aware - I can find that inner part of me and I hope you do too.
Made with love and grief

— Reserved for Humans

Oh, the logo? People guess “floating islands,” “upside-down mushrooms,” “sting rays,” even “clouds and lightning.” I sketched it on an iPad and hoped it was obvious. I’m not going to tell you what it is — that takes the fun out of it. It’s reserved for humans.
